On February 6, 2026, the ignition and commissioning ceremony of the 100,000-ton synthetic mica project of Global New Material International in Tonglu county was grandly held. Tonglu County Party Secretary Feng Jing, Global New Material International Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Su Ertian and other government and business leaders and guests jointly pressed the ignition button, marking the official transition of this key and critical basic new materials project from the engineering construction stage to the critical period of trial production preparation, injecting strong impetus into the high-quality development of China’s new materials industry.
As a key project in the field of national key basic new materials, Global New Material International’s Tonglu synthetic mica project focuses on the research and development and industrialization of high-quality synthetic mica and its extended products, with a total planned capacity of 100,000 tons. Once completed, it will become the world’s largest and technologically leading research and production base for synthetic mica. At the ceremony site, the guests visited the project’s production workshop, research and development center and supporting facilities together, learned about the project’s construction history, core technological advantages and future capacity planning, and highly praised the project’s technological advancement and industrial driving force.
“As an important strategic fulcrum of Global New Material International, the commissioning of the Tonglu project will not only enhance the company’s manufacturing capabilities in key basic new materials, but also contribute to the agglomeration of Tonglu’s new materials industry and promote high-quality development of advanced manufacturing in the region.” Su Ertian said in his speech at the ceremony that after the project goes into production, it will further form efficient synergy with the group’s global R&D and manufacturing network and continuously enhance Chinese materials’ say in the global high-end market. In the future, GNMI will adhere to the principles of safety first, quality-oriented and risk-controllable, and steadily advance work such as system linkage debugging and operation parameter optimization to promote the project to form stable and sustainable operation capacity as soon as possible and steadily move towards the development goal of “everlasting business”.

Zhang Suping, Member of the Standing Committee of the Tonglu County Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Development Zone, said that the successful ignition and commissioning of the Global New Material International Tonglu project is a vivid practice of the joint efforts of the government and enterprises to promote high-quality development, and it is also an important milestone in the development of Tonglu’s new materials industry. At present, Tonglu is fully promoting the “18-minute integration with Hangzhou” strategy, focusing on four 10-billion-yuan industries including new materials, and accelerating the construction of the “chain leader + chain master” promotion mechanism. The county committee and the county government will continue to uphold the “babysitting-style” service concept, increase support in terms of element guarantee and industrial chain synergy, help enterprises reach full production capacity and efficiency as soon as possible, promote projects to drive the aggregation of upstream and downstream resources, and form a new materials industrial cluster with global competitiveness.
Synthetic mica is a key basic material for the advanced manufacturing system and is widely used in strategic emerging industries such as new energy vehicles, high-end cosmetics, photovoltaic panels, and functional coatings. Previously, the global high-end synthetic mica market relied on imports for a long time. The implementation of this project by Global New Material International not only fills the gap in the regional high-end synthetic mica industry, but also achieves independent control of core raw materials, strengthening the security barrier of China’s new materials industry chain from the root, deeply in line with the national strategic direction of promoting high-quality development of manufacturing and cultivating new quality productivity.
